Leaders in implementing new techniques for extending living labs are a network consisting of farmers, scientists, researchers, advisors, and agriculture extension officers. They work together in local production centers to offer farmers daily guidance and technical assistance.
All Agriculture Extension Officers selected local lead farmers and collaborated with them to set up demonstration plots on their farms.
Demonstration farms, which are open to all local farmers, serve as a central hub for information and training, following a Farmer Field School approach to educate and empower other farmers.
More than 80 farms were dedicated to showcasing vegetables and field crops, along with over 100 farms specifically focused on date palms in 2014. A hydroponics trial center was established at the Model Farm in order to test and evaluate various hydroponic and vertical farming methods before advising farmers on the best practices to adopt.
The Model Farm in Saudi Arabia provided education and training on local food production and safety in order to promote locally produced food, improve food security in the community, and reduce the environmental impact of importing products.
